Theme: Love

Modern Love

Lovers let Rome in Tiber melt,

And in their own ivory cabin dwelt.

When lovers in the days of yore,

Did not crave for more,

For whom kingdoms were clay,

While love today to wealth’s tune does play;

For the old, the nobleness of life in embrace did lay.

Today the lovers seek love’s consummation in wealth’s acquisition.

                   II

Rosy cheeks did not a love ordain,

Today to none without this does love pertain.

Love seeks the sacrifices great,

Which lovers of the olden days offered without fret.

Moden love sprouts with kisses in the bushes,

Attains its crescendo with indulgence in Cupid’s fires.

Denouement begins just when a life is born,

The boy of the flame of love is shorn.

Aware of his “status” he begins to bargain,

And puts love to distain.

                   III

Asks he to get the vestiges of love’s consummation effaced,

This in many a case does love destroy,

When these with God’s grace occur,

And the boy with promptness provides the much-needed succour,

And says “yes” to take the rounds against holy fires seven.

This makes the girl and her family thank the Heaven.

                   IV

The intensity of love by leaps and bounds increases,

And with heavens grace, fear and hatred ceases.

Soon comes a time;

Devil raises his ugly head,

The girl, now a bride with brevity told,

To bring car and more gold from her parents’ household.

When the girl’s parents don’t a compliance make,

And ignore the fiats of daughter’s in-laws,

The bride’s seat in heaven is booked,

And with great finesse her departure

From the world’s stage is arranged.

To her is attributed this act’s execution;

A case of UD is booked.

The policeman has his share,

And submits his report innocuous;

Which leaves the in-laws unscathed,

And the boy is now ready for another round seven.

                   V

In cases some where the bride’s parents fair play seek;

The UD cases turn to homicide u/s 302.

The teeth of section 498 A of IPC too are added.

The result - girl’s all the named offenders,

Behind the bars are sent.

And the girl from the sky regrets her act unwise;

And weeps for her love’s demise.

When I see lovers in the park,

The Dog of such disastrous ends does bark.

I doubt if the pair shall in the same boat sail;

Or their parents for their wrong doings wail.

Which seeks its course without sacrifice of the city of Troy,

While she adores the flame alive.
