Silent Prayers of Trees

Leaves withered, pale,

Dry, shrivelled, starved

Of water, standing mutely,

Almost lifeless, scorched

All day in the blistering summer,

Trees raising their arms

Of branches to the cloudless sky,

Offering silent prayers

For the cool, gentle, pearly rains.
