“I’ll make time”—
when "this" is done,
when "that" is over,
when life finally slows.
All the while,
asking me to wait.
So I waited
While the presence, love needed to grow
Was devoted to "this" or "that"
And slowly, the space between us widened,
As one "this" replaced another "that"
And with each, another promise
That never brought you near.
Through the wait, I learned:
A love that is true
Is made whole by presence;
Time given and time returned.
