While growing up, there were events that made me feel lonely, compelling me to seek refuge in solitude.
As a young teenager, it was difficult to comprehend life’s contradictions and uncertainties.
At such critical moments, Amma was the one to provide succor.
She explained:
There is a clear difference between loneliness and solitude.
Loneliness, often born of emotional disturbance caused by external forces, distorts perspective.
Solitude is the freedom to be alone by choice, creating space for introspection, reflection and self-awareness.
Yet, self-understanding cannot grow in seclusion.
The “I” needs the inclusion of the “You” as a mirror, revealing what we cannot see within ourselves.
She concluded:
It is through meaningful togetherness that one discovers true individuality.
