Before Spring

Everyone takes a vacation
So should I -

Withdraw
like a snail in a shell,
tortoise in its coat,
frog in muddy water,
humus in leafy swarm -
hibernating, resting
to rejuvenate later.

There are leaves all around
drifting, falling aimlessly.

It's autumn I know.
Feels so nice
to see bare trees -
stark, motionless,
brown, devoid of leaves -
so shorn of energy.

In preparedness for spring
they are napping

like my heart
caught between
strain of expectations
and disdain of despair.
