The Dawning

  Mid-summer of the year;
early dawn in the view,
deep chilliness in the sands,
deafening silence in the breeze,
painting stillness in the coast
until the first camera
flashes to show the
first turtle hatching
from its eggshell.
As the blinks set off
turtle by turtle
lifts its head
and the hatchlings,
step by step,
walk to the shore.
The first hatchling
leaps into the sea
and the last hatchling
slips into the eagle
as their mother mutely
walks back
into the routine act.
