Please hold my hand and lead me on, my friend
I don’t know the way.
I will rely on you from now on
I know none else.
I have not even an iota of doubt
You are the king of my heart
To you alone I shall pay my devotion
Please hold my hand, my friend
And lead me on
I don’t know the way.
Transcreation of the famous old Bengali song – Amar hat dhore tumi niye chalo sakha, ami je e path chinina – originally recorded by the legendary singer Angurbala. The name of the composer of its lyrics and music -Dhirendranath Chattopadhay - is not remembered by many today but the eight lines and the music he composed are pure honey. It was very effectively used by the famous film director Tapan Sinha in his award winning film Chhuti (Vacation) where the background singer is Pratima Bandopadhyay. It has recently been beautifully remade by the Bangladeshi singer Iffat-ara Khan.
