In the dead of night
Waking up from my sleep
I search you my love
Beyond the limits of the sky.
When I find you are not by my side
And in the courtyard
The flowers have all shed
Like a bird struck by an arrow
Tossing on the ground
My heart only cries.

At midnight it is silent all around
The world is asleep
In these silent hours
Come back to me, my love
So many things I wanted to say
Like thorns
They remain lodged in my heart unsaid
There is so much of bitterness and pain
I can hardly forget
And you will see
All my dreams are nipped like buds
And in this darkness all my hopes are dead
And my heart only sighs.

Transcreation of one of the most poignant love songs – Govir rate jagi khunji tomare – by Kazi Nazrul Islam. Best recording of this song is by Sandhya Mukherji. Listening to this wonderful recording will bring tears to the eyes.
