Theme: Nature

Nature in Principle

I saw the moon tonight, quite unawares
it lifted my eyes, ushering in
a realisation, just as in days
gone by, the spell of its illumination;

these were effects on my imagination,
I externalise as nature’s own ways;
in poetry, to render the sensation
as upon my mind the moonlight it plays.

Darwin saw in nature nothing but strife,
in light and in darkness tactical themes
conjured in the brains of all forms of life,
the hunter and hunted; no scope for dreams.

Only in man’s realisation of
principle, of truth, of beauty, and love,
do the forms of nature metamorphose
and materialise what is known above.
