The Pond

  The pond is different now
drakes and hens no longer swim and dive
and tortoises, rarely seen before,
extend their necks like periscopes above the surface,
one perched on a log

It's different now
the water an oddly-tinted bluish-green,
I've never seen it like this before.
maybe that is why the ducks have left
and tortoises gasp for breath
