Love and Truth need Each Other

Love and Truth walk brotherly together
Through the Narrow Gate and Narrow Road,
Unrestrained and free of chain or tether,
As the brightest satellites of God.

Love and Truth ardently need each other,
Complement each other perfectly,
Balanced well, they cannot check and smother
Or encroach upon the other's ministry.

Love will sacrifice and bend to yield
To demands for sacrifice supreme,
Truth will bend to till and plough the field,
So that useful plants may grow and gleam.

Don’t accept a Love that lacks in Truth!
Nor accept a Truth that lacks in Love!
Both are called to make the broadest use
Of their therapeutic treasure trove.

Truth espies the dark and salty brine...
Brings it up and forward from the pit,
Love turns water into sparkling wine,
And the world at large will benefit...

Love may become flat and syrupy,
Truth will make it pungent, spicy, tart,
With its omnipresent energy,
Springing from a truthful, loving heart.

Dual calling,- balance these two strands,
Gentleness and firmness proudly hold
The big Universe in blessed hands
Purged from dross, and junk as purest Gold.

Balancing  the strands of Love and Truth
Is beyond man’s elbow room and space,
And escapes the sympathetic Muse,
But is up to Our Father’s Grace.

Yet for man to reach his final goal,
Both these ministers must be pursued,
To assist the searching, hungry soul
To reach heaven and beatitude.
