Only A Child

She had liquid brown eyes Deep pools in the yellow sun And little rosy lips More beautiful there were none
She fled with her mother Beneath the scorching desert sky Once clung fast to her mother Now alone she did cry
Where are you now mother It's too bright for me to see Where are you now mother From what danger did we flee
I listen for your voice mother What what what is it Do hear your voice mother, or Is the wind's cry so fierce
You're lying in the sand mother Now I can plainly see You're lying in the sand mother Oh please get up for me
I see your hand in the dust mother I'm tugging on your sleeve Move your gentle hand mother Let's go it's time to leave
You are too quiet mother Are you angry with me I am so afraid mother Don't be angry with me
A fly is on your face mother Why is the ground so red? A black fly is on your face mother Why is the ground so red?
